Welcome back again lovely humans!
Today we are here to talk about one of my favourite things. Intuitive eating - I have followed this lifestyle along with being vegan for quite some time. For a long time, I worried so much about what I was eating, the calories and sugars and carbs that came along with it, and how it was affecting my body. One day I decide to give that up and just listen to my body. If I want a sweet muffin for breakfast, ramen for lunch, and a huge colourful plate for dinner, then so be it. As long as I am happy and in sync with what my body wants, as long as I am full and satisfied, I will be perfectly fine. Since I made the transition to an intuitive eating lifestyle, I have had an amazing relationship with food. As long as it is vegan, I do not restrict myself on anything. I love food and I eat food I love. First things first, what is intuitive eating? Intuitive eating is a personal process of honouring health by listening and responding to your body to meet the requirements and needs for your body. What is NOT intuitive eating? It is NOT a diet. It is NOT a food plan. There is NOTHING to count including but not limited to: calories, carbs, sugars, macros, etc. So when you change over to the intuitive eating lifestyle, just listen to your body. Do not look at the numbers on boxes or even on the scale. I promise you will benefit from it. The next thing are tips for the lifestyle that you are interested in. There are 10 principles out there to help make it easier for you. 1. Reject the DIET Mentality 2. Honour your Hunger 3. Make Peace with Food 4. Challenge the Food Police 5. Discover the Satisfaction Factor 6. Feel your Fullness 7. Cope with Your Emotions with Kindness 8. Respect Your Body 9. Movement - Feel the Difference 10. Honour Your Health - Gentle Nutriton The website that I found provides much more articles and information on the intuitive eating ways apart from just this list. I will link it at the end of the post for whoever may be interested. Following these principles will help you out tremendously. For myself, I stopped looking for the right diet that worked for me. I listen to my body, if I am hungry and able to eat, then I will eat. My peace with food is great - as long as it is vegan friendly, I will eat almost anything. Challenging the food police is the phrase for you to hear. If you beat yourself up about having a slice of pie, then you need to challenge the food police in yourself and learn to say "No! It's okay if I enjoy this lovely slice of pie. It's not going to hurt me." Discovering the satisfaction factor pretty much means to eat until you are satisfied. If you are still hungry, eat a little more. If you are full and satisfied and cannot finish your plate, that's okay too. This aligns with Feel your Fullness. Keep it in mind while eating and you will be okay to eat what you desire. Cope with Your Emotions with Kindness means to listen to your emotions and feelings. Are you bored or anxious? Eating may only temporarily relieve that for you, and may ultimately make you feel worse later. Listen to your body and eat when you're hungry. Fuel your emotions another way. Respect Your Body means to come to love and respect your body size and shape. Doing this will help you out where you are not overly critical about how you want to look because of the "trend" that's currently going on. You are your own body, learn to love it. Movement - Feel the Difference means to just get active and feel the difference with your body and emotions. You do not have to "work out" and be "fit" to get "in shape". Just be active and have fun with it, your body and mind will love it as well. Honour Your Health - Gentle Nutrition means to eat what your taste buds like but also what makes you feel overall goo. Doing this does not mean you will be 100% the healthiest person you know, that standard goes away with intuitive eating lifestyles. Going along with these 10 principles will help the process and in return will help and honour your physical and mental health. Intuitive eating also provides freedom. This freedom comes from learning and trusting and loving your body for exactly as it is. Doing this helps you truly know what your body really desires. The freedom you get is from the diets, meal plans, restrictions, and/or eating disorders. You have the freedom to eat what you want, when your body wants it. After all, only you truly know what your body desires. Aren't you ready for a bit of freedom? Now, with intuitive eating, how will you be able to keep it up during the holidays? Just remember to listen to your body and mind - do not listen to the family member that is ridiculing you and telling you how you should eat. You have the right to enjoy your meal. Do you want another serving? Go right ahead, there is nothing wrong with that. Though, I always make sure that everyone has had at least a serving of everything they want, after all, holidays are about sharing as well. Can you not finish your plate and you are full? That's okay too. If you have family or friends insisting you should try the desserts just tell them "No, thank you.". You do not need to explain yourself to anyone. You have the right to eat as much or as little as you desire. I hope that you have learned a lot from this post. I am no doctor or nutritionist and I am not telling anyone to change their eating habbits. This post comes from me loving the intuitive eating lifestyle for myself and wanting to share the information to all of you. Who knows, maybe you haven't discovered this yet and this is going to be ground breaking for yourself. Happy Holidays everyone! Much love, M The website where I got the 10 principles from is linked below here. They have much more information to read up on if you are interested. www.intuitiveeating.org
